Overview
Northwind wanted to turn raw meteorological GRIB data into something people would actually look at. The brief was a globe — but one that felt alive, not like a satellite image frozen in time.
We built a custom WebGL pipeline that streams wind-vector tiles, converts them to particle fields on the GPU, and renders the whole atlas on a single canvas at 60 fps. The colour grading uses a perceptually uniform palette (OKLAB) so speed differences read clearly even on uncalibrated displays.
